A Globalist stayed in early November 2025 on the night of the New York City Marathon, redeeming an expiring Category 1-7 free night certificate at this Category 7 hotel on a night when the peak points rate was 35,000 and cash rates were through the roof. Arriving around 10 a.m., he was offered a basic room right away or the chance to wait for a suite, chose to wait, and was upgraded on his Globalist status to a Loft Suite, one of the hotel's premium suites, which he called enormous by New York standards, though reaching it meant an elevator transfer in the northern section. Globalist breakfast covered a hot entree plus hot and cold drinks in the restaurant, where he had a chorizo scramble, and could also be taken by room service with the delivery charge included. An incorrect minibar charge he had not consumed had to be removed at checkout, but he said he would hands-down return if upgrades like this are regular.

    À la carte only

On an annual sisters trip to New York, a Globalist stayed at this Category 8 hotel and was told apologetically at check-in that no suite was available because the hotel was busy, so there was no suite upgrade. Her room was still pleasant, with a separate seating area, a work chair and a second TV, and a bathroom she called a stunner. Globalist breakfast was served a la carte in The Cellar and covered a hot entree plus a cold and a hot beverage for each of them, which she rated really good, and there was also an evening social hour for Globalists. As at other Andaz hotels, complimentary treats and a fridge of free waters and sodas were in the room. She liked the hotel and its midtown location but preferred the Thompson Central Park in a head-to-head comparison. Status is evidenced through the Globalist breakfast and social hour described rather than a direct statement of her own tier.

The suite came once the hotel heard their son was flying in from Austin at the last minute. Their favorite Hyatt in New York.

A neighbor's noisy TV led to the move to the suite. Prosecco for the celebration, and in-room breakfast came off the bill.

The front desk arranged the same suite for all six nights, even the first, which was on a category 1-7 free night certificate. Solid value.
