One-bedroom City View Suite (premium suite booked with extra points) → One-bedroom Cityview Suite, room 1712

    Given

A Globalist couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with three nights in October. Standard suites were unavailable at booking and he did not want to risk a check-in upgrade, so as a Globalist he used extra points to book the premium one-bedroom Cityview suite outright rather than receiving an upgrade. The 1,000 sq ft suite, room 1712, had a city-view living room, a half-bath powder room and a large master bath with a free-standing tub and Japanese toilet seats, and champagne with chocolate-covered strawberries was waiting on arrival. They had no time for breakfast at the hotel on a packed itinerary, found the dining limited to the Living Room lobby bar, and noted cash rates are very high even by New York standards, but loved the stay and said they would definitely return.

Top-notch, with classy, prompt service and Le Labo now in big wall-mounted bottles. Room-service breakfast for two ran $150 to $190, all wiped.

The suite award gave a King Bed Suite, and asking guest relations got the corner suite. Strong value at about $800 plus taxes.

The $720 Prive night came with the upgrade, but keeping the room for the 35,000-point night cost $50. Warm service, breakfast only okay.

Keeping the suite past night one: $250, then $300 a night, which felt like a used-car-salesman shakedown. The manager later apologized and comped it.

Breakfast let it down, with poor bacon, badly made lobster eggs, stingy portions and pushy bottled-water upsells. Bad enough to cancel Christmas dinner there.

    Welcome amenity
    Given

On the night of Thanksgiving, a repeat guest redeemed a free night certificate earned for staying at 50 unique Hyatt properties at this Category 7 hotel. Check-in was fumbled, with his name taken twice and the reservation initially not found, and he was assigned a Park Deluxe King room with a rollaway because no two-bed rooms were available; the article does not say whether that assignment was an upgrade. The Diamond breakfast was the 57th Street Breakfast, taken as orange juice, a nonfat cappuccino, an egg white scramble and wheat toast, chocolates and Asian pears were waiting on the desk as a welcome amenity, and late checkout was used. A turkey club in The Living Room was served with bacon despite a request to leave it off, and service was off for the holiday, though doorman Christopher and chef concierge Simon were praised and the massive rooms were called gorgeous. Status is recorded as unknown because the review uses the legacy Diamond tier name, which has no canonical slug.

A beautiful hotel with free room-service breakfast each morning. Several plain-looking suites count as premium, so suite awards can't touch them.
